So I have the perfect pony, the perfect livery yard blaa blaa. I have been riding for 56 years never had a bad fall but when I go out I get scared .It might be agoraphobia.....not sure tbh I just don't know how to get rid of my ...what ifs
I don't know what it is...its been getting worse for years tbh. I took my husband outwith me last week as a foot soldier, he wasn't much help but nice to have him there. The pony went fine....its all in my mind :/If you have been riding 56 years, are you now in your sixties?
When you say - go out - what does this mean?
Do you mean you are frightened to go out hacking? Is this something new?
Do you ride in a school? Or have lessons in a school? And how does that feel?
And what about your perfect pony? How long have you had him? Does he feel about a school, hacking etc. Is he very different from the horses you used to ride?
I think one needs to be specific about the fears, Is it spooking? Is it being run away with?
I ask these questions seriously as I am in my seventies myself - and yes there are times when I am wary of hacking. My own solutions are to wear a good hat and body protector to minimise the damage done by falls, and to have regular school riding lessons so my riding skills are kept up to scratch.
As for fear of spaces - Yes the view of a landscape and architecture from horseback is different - It is a historic view. It is the view one finds in the pages of old novels. And it is what I pay for when I pay to hack. But having a horse and countryside to ride in is a luxury. If it is making you miserable, forget it.
There are people on NR who dont hack. And if it is frightening you I would give it up for a bit and enjoy your pony in the school -
