Hi everyone, Well I had my 7 hour bowel resection op on the 30th may followed by a 19 day stay in hospital. Its fair to say anything that could go wrong did go wrong. Thankfully I was allowed home on tues and despite now fighting low blood pressure and feeling pretty rough I cant wait till I can be back with the horses, it seems like its been a eternity. Hope everyones ok and I will spend my time catching up by reading all your posts. x

Ohmygosh! I didn't realise you had had to have an operation! And a 19 day post op stay definitely doesn't sound good!! Hope you are on the mend soon xxx

I had robotic LAR surgery where they take part of your bowel away and join things back up. I had to have surgery the previous chemo/radio was just to try and shrink it although it only worked minimally. Im now likely to have to have 6 months of chemo which im waiting to hear about now. I thought is be riding a month post op but realise now it more likely to be 3 months, my daughters keeping my newbie ticking over for me. This 'C' thing is bloody awful it literally turns your life upside down. x

You are a brave woman and I am very sorry. I dont know if someone told you you would be riding a month after the op?
My GP said that surgeons always under estimate the recovery time from an op - both physical and mental. It is the GPs who have the experience of looking after patients when they come out of hospital and they know it takes longer. I dont say this to depress you but my GP said this to reassure me. To allow myself a year. The surgeon said 6 weeks but it was 8 weeks before I felt able to get on a horse. And when I did ride I felt totally incapable of riding a lesson - fit to ride my elderly share but not a youngster.
That was why I was offered my share, so we could potter around and be happy with each other. I dont know if you too have a safe horse with whom you can just spend time? Maisie my fav. and regular ride was a real handful, a wilful Connie, and it was over 6 months before I got back on her. But just being with my share was a real benefit for both of us.
I need another similar now.
And hope you can find the same.

Glad to hear you're home with the horses, even if you can't ride just yet at least you can have cuddles and furry kisses :) the surgery sounds huge, 7 hours is a long time. I hope the remainder of your recoup from that and the chemo go well x

I am really sorry to hear what a rough time you have had and that you still face months of treatment. Very, very difficult time for you but you do come across as a very brave and positive type of person, that will carry you through all this and hopefully it won't be too long now before you are back to doing all the usual horsey things you love and miss. :)

Oh wow, brave person!!! Lots of vibes for the future treatment too. I hope you get chance soon to spend horse time, even if not riding just being around them. I should imagine it's bad enough having major surgery etc and on top of that getting horsey withdrawal symptoms:oops::p
Onwards and upwards for you anyway, please do keep us posted whenever you feel up to it:D

Thank you everyone, Im really not brave at all and really you have very little choice when given a diagnosis other than follow the treatment plan that is planned for you. I obviously have young children too, my youngest being 7 which makes all the hospital stay etc difficult. The surgery was huge and has left me having to self cathiterize as ive lost feeling to my bladder, i also have a temporary stoma to give my large bowel chance to heal and so recovery has been far from easy, and at times darn right depressing. My bladder may fix itself but theres a chance it wont. Again my symptoms werent huge, since mar/apr 2017 i had ibs symptoms as had constipation and pain near my left hip when i ate, this progressed to constant pain and via colonoscopy on thurs 28th dec a 6cm rectostigmoyd tumour was found. I did not at any point have bleeding! I had just turned 39 so it was a complete shock to both myself and the drs. I only write my symptoms again as I dont want anyone to think you get bleeding with BC cause I didnt. On a brighter note the surgeon believes he got it and seems quite pleased with himself, I however find it hard to believe its gone and yet am throughly grateful for his time and expertise. x

I am completely blown away by your post. Yes you may just have to deal with it but you are brave and strong. It must be so hard for doctors and GP to find out what is wrong with someone but luckily they have done with you hopefully they got it all now. I know you still have months of Chemo and other treatment. You have your family and ponies to keep you strong. But please do not rush back to riding you need to gather your strength and get as fully fit as you can first. Huge hugs and vibes for you and your family

I am sorry such a thing has come to you and your family :(. Thank you for your brave and honest account of your symptoms @tikkitti - it's a reminder to get ourselves checked out if something doesn't seem quite right. Sending positive vibes for the next steps in your treatment and I hope you are able to visit your horses soon.

I'm glad you posted @tikkitti, I was wondering how you were doing. I too think you're a very brave lady, maybe you have no choice with your treatment, but the way you are squaring up to it and being so positive and honest in sharing your experience is amazing. Best wishes for a speedy recovery from the surgery and I hope you get the chemo over and done with quickly too. It must be a very tough time for you and your family, I wish you all the best x
