Well Raf had his scope today and he does have ulcers, low grade ones in the bottom part of his stomach. In classic Raf style he also has an issue that no-one has come across before or can explain - he has nodules in his stomach. My vet sent the images of the nodules to an expert but he had never seen anything like it either. They tell me not to worry, they don't think they are sinister, and the expert didn't think it was worth attempting to take biopsies because he didn't feel they'd be able to get enough tissue.

So I fetched him home with a rather large bill ... and some Omeprazole syringes and some powdered gastric aid supplement. It will be interesting to see if anything changes with him, bearing in mind he doesn't really have any symptoms other than girthiness.

Well done you for having recognised his discomfort :) Hopes fully he's on the road to recovery and the nodules keep quiet - don't know if its relevant but I've got nodules on my fingers and a friend of mine had them on her vocal chords, neither of us has any problems with them apart from in my case their visibility and discomfort if I knock them and in my friends case a losing of the voice if she shouted too much ;)

I didn't know you had an ulcer @Trewsers. Did the drugs work?

Yes thanks, it took two months really for it to clear / heal completely. Have to say, it was the most painful and scary illness I've had. The constant pain was unbearable and came right out of the blue. I didn't get anywhere really with my gp and asked for a referral to a private consultant. Things moved very quickly after that and am pleased to say his treatment and advice worked asap. I won't forget it in a hurry though!!

Glad you're ok now - sounds horrible. I hope Raf's treatment works as well lol.

I give omeprezole to the dog when she has one of her funny turns. Her stomach lining was scratched years ago by pulling off those sticky prickly burrs which got stuck to her coat, she then ate some. It's basically to help line the stomach to stop the food irritating it so the stomach lining can heal.

Hope he's feeling better soon, it is expensive! Is he insured or you self funding?
Self funding at the moment because he has a lifelong exclusion in anything to do with his digestive tract following a minor bout of colic about 8 years ago  My vet has sent a letter to the insurance company asking if the exclusion can be lifted as he has never had any problems since but I don't hold out much hope to be honest.
