I only had a very quiet panic to myself when I saw my 3 legged horse hobbling over the field to see me. Last time he was this lame he was in surgery 2 days later.

I have an amazing farrier who, on a friday night, was out inside a half hour to check what I suspected. And I was right.

Poor boy was so sore he stood bolt upright twice during getting the shoe off, but the offending bit has been found. He now has an all wrapped up foot and is living in the lunge pen for a bit.

Typical that for xmas i got a whole kew set of posh show gear and were bookes into my first comp of the year on saturday!!!

But my lad will be fine and I am lucky in that I have the choice of 2 stand-ins. The 15hh, 15hh wide proper hairy coloured cob or my sisters 18hh slightly bonkers tb!! The tb can can canter a circle, but the cob will defo stop cantering!!! Choices, choices!!!!

Cow was very happy to not have to share the hay though!!

Nooooo! Your poor boy. :( hope he’s mended soon. Good luck with your stand-in. I’d volunteer my boy, but, well... he’s in use that day. ;)

Why oh why do they feel the need to ram their head in the hay to eat from the bottom?

I hope it clears up quickly now that the shoe is off & you're poulticing, bless your farrier for getting there so quickly. I hope you have fun at the show even if it isn't on your lad.

I hate abscesses. My horse normally has a yearly abscess in January/February but this year he has decided to have an infected splint instead. I hope that it resolves very soon and he isn't too sore on it.

Poor love, hope he is feeling better now it's draining. Mine has just popped bilateral hind abscesses at the coronet band. Hate the things, but it's always a relief when you discover they were the cause of the lameness and not something worse isn't it?

Thank you all. Pleased to report a vile stinking poultice and a MUCH sounder horse today.

Id like your post mary but that is rubbish.:( This is the first one Cow has ever had so I count ourselves lucky, but its the first time hes been lame since the nightmare of last winter and whether he would ever come right.

Take a breath.

In addition to always sticking their whole heads in the hay why when you fees it loose on the floor do they feel the nees to poo in it! Argh!!

I had a lovely ride on stand in horse #1 today. Might not bother with #2.

This is my sisters horse Mo.

Fingers crossed Cow comes right really quickly. Glad he’s more comfortable.

Love the look of your stand-in! Hope he goes well for you. X

He is now sound and has a shie back on, but has a hole in an annoying place so is living in the lunge pen atm and is very bored!
