2017 Hacking/ Riding Challenge.... Add your photos too

Well the ginger mans halo fell off this morning:eek:
I had planned a potter about but he had other ideas and when I got on he was jigging and jogging and generally being cheeky / silly. I am not the most confident and he's a long way up for me so I got off:(hurt my foot again jumping down:(.
Mr T then went and got his hat and hopped on to see what was amiss - they had a quick potter about the fields and he was really on his toes. My neighbour has just brought her other horse home and Zi can see him, so I wonder if he spotted him and it unsettled him??? He was good enough once they got going but it's put me back a little. Need to dig out mu brave pants when the weather calms down:cool:

I think they all have off days - hopefully that is all it was. I wonder if he could sense the storm approaching?

I'm sure he will be fine next time you get on. He was probably a bit excitable with seeing his new horsey neighbour, once he gets used and bored of seeing it he will be back to his wonderful chilled out self ;):)

Thanks - I think it might have been a combo of being tacked up early morning instead of playing in the field and his new horsey neighbour. Well I hope so! Lol I definitely had my chicken pants on that's for sure:oops:

Yeah I suppose it might have been. We did have a weird looking sky later on and a bit of thunder. Hm.. But as you say, they do all have off days. I was just a bit surprised, I had imagined he would have been cheeky sooner, but maybe just an off day.

Oops! Still they can't be perfect all the time. It surely must be just a blip as you know how good he is normally. I hope you find his halo and restore it speedily! Sorry you hurt your foot though :(

Thanks, my foot is an on going issue (and all because I wouldn't slither off him and insisted to OH that I was springy and bendy enough to just hop off - this was a few weeks ago. That will teach me to not accept his help:rolleyes::oops:) He is quite a long way up for me, being only five feet nothing. :p

Off work this week so lots of lovely riding and Ale time :)

Tues went for an hours solo hack, absolutely lovely ground is perfect at the moment for trotting and cantering :D

Wed played around in the school over some small jumps working on turns which my share thought was great fun!

Today took the bf with me for a hack in the rain, lovely :)

Aw thanks. Unfortunately because I can't do box rest it isn't getting better as quickly as it should. I'm okay around the yard in sturdy boots - it's indoors that's the problem. I suppose I should either take to the sofa or buy another pair of sturdy house boots (can't wear the same yard ones they are totally clarted!!)

We had a visit from Storm Brian on Saturday. It wasn't too bad but not a day to be out on the roads with scarey plastic bags whizzing around. Harvey and I had a short session in the school working towards getting him riding in a contact.

On Sunday I had a nice ride with C which was mostly walk and trot but we did have a bit of a run on a local bridleway :)

Keep forgetting to post in here! Have a few rides to update.

On 15/10 I went out with another person from the yard. We had a specific route in mind, it was busy with people and dogs everywhere but the weather was fab. We walked around the downs en route to a specific track which she wanted to have a canter down. So we had a little blast down there, my share has a much bigger stride than her horse, and we were behind, so ended up a bit too close behind her horse in the end and had to go back to trot as there wasn't enough room to overtake, so didn't get as much of a canter as I'd have liked. That ride was 1hr30 mins and we travelled 7.3km.

Last Sunday I was on my own and decided to do the same route, thinking this time I could get a good canter in as I wouldn't be behind anybody... Unfortunately we'd had a bit of rain what with all the storms recently, so by the time I got to the track I wanted to canter down, I saw it was only suitable for walk... The ground where I ride is surprisingly muddy even though it's relatively high up... Most of the ride was in walk because of this, with a bit of trot. Anyway when I got back to the yard I went into the school and did a bit of cantering in there instead. He's stronger on one rein so the canter is always more bouncy going clockwise, so I always feel there's room for practice and improvement. All in all I rode for 1hr45mins and travelled 7.7km.

Yesterday I decided to go in the school again as I have a lesson this week and wanted to brush up on my schooling and practice my dressage. Another rider came in just as I got started which pretty much curtailed the dressage practice. Overall it was okay but he kept trying to cut the corners and was particularly difficult at the 'A' end of the school - not a problem I've had with him before. We persisted and got it right most of the time but he was hard work, and I did start to feel frustrated so I finished up and went for a little plod and a canter around the track at the yard instead. He was good as gold outside of the school! Typical... Yesterday's ride was about an hour, approx. 40 mins in the school and 20 mins on the track.

Overall totals 211.04km in 36hrs 50mins plus 10 hours 25mins schooling

A quiet week for me. On Saturday I delivered the lorry to be repaired. I was going to ride Harvey in the school but discovered that he had a small area of scabs on his girth line - I think he had been laying on something in the field. I decided not to risk making him sore so just gave the affected area a wash.

Sunday was a nice hack round accompanying C who doesn't have her own mount - she gets to exercise Amii when her owner is away. She isn't experienced at hacking and is only 15 so has to be mentored which I am happy to do (obviously with the approval of her guardian).

I had Monday off so grabbed the chance to go and school Harvey finishing with a bit of jumping as he likes to have a play

image.jpeg So proud of the gingerbread man today, first time out alone with OH. Hahahaa not for long tho as they met up with our friend on her horse which was nice. I think they did about three miles, hehee good exercise for me too. It was wonderful to see them actually pottering along the roads I have so wished for them to go on, all our neighbours ride this root amongst others and I was so pleased when he felt like going today. Think we were out just over an hour - with some nattering and stopping of course:D

Thanks, they are a good pair, so well matched. Lol I was laughing to myself imagining Storm's reaction if she'd met the lovely little highland we passed along the way (Zi just nodded companionably to her:D) I think Storm might have had other ideas (she is totally unsociable really:oops:)

Hadn't ridden for a little while as just haven't felt like it.

But this week schooled on Thurs and nice hack in the sunshine with my mum this morning :)

So sometimes I miss a lot :(

Have not done much in the last couple of weeks due to weather and things.

Went back Friday to some walking but it was sooooooooo hot
it was terrible. I had planned to do some rd pen cavaletii but
but no way could I do that with the heat.
I did some walkabout on the road cause it was good for him legging him up and good for my knee too.

Yesterday was cooler so I did some walk on the road then came to the small cavaletti pen I had monster horse again.
He was so full of him self
and took quite a while to blow it out and listen to voice commands
