Quite a bit to catch up on from me.
I've had a fab week away at Hallagenna riding in Cornwall. Its right on the edge of the moor and where a lot of the first series of Poldark was filmed (the horses were based at Hallgenna). After an assessment lesson on Lucy (15hh ish suitable for a complete novice) they gave me Kidoo for the rest of the week. He is a 15hh ish 8 year old native type (I'm not good at breeds!) - he is normally used only by the staff as a lead horse so was pretty keen and suited me perfectly.
I had jumping lessons on 4 of the days. I've only ever jumped horses that are easy to jump which Kidoo isn't (he's not been jumping that long), so I learnt alot. I was taught by Jen who is a level 2 coach (I think!) and was head groom at Talland for a while.
I did 5 hacks on the moors mostly for a couple of hours, and normally with just me and a guide. There was quite a lot of cantering and galloping going on!
On the last day I did the Cream Tea trail ride, which was 5 1/2 hours riding, mostly off road with a stop after 4 hours for lunch. Oh how I wish my riding was like that normally! The couple who rode with me hadn't ridden longer than an hour before, and after 2 hours were already looking uncomfortable
Oh and on the way down I went to try a horse to buy. Chester is a 16.2hh warmblood x TB. I rode and jumped him in the school, and then took him in the field and jumped some XC jumps. He's a really nice boy, but I didn't feel he was forward enough for me. I was going to go and ride him again, but they sold him so the decision was made for me.
On Saturday we went down to the National Carriage driving championships to watch - I don't think we will ever be taking Monty there.
Yesterday I took Bug out for a couple of hours and got my things ready for Riding camp which is Friday to Sunday - more to follow on this!
I have got some pictures from the trail ride, but they are still in the camera.
