Riding Lesson Tonight

So I have my BHS Stage 1 lesson tonight starting with an hour lesson followed by half hour of horse care (though usually ends up longer). I've been riding a rather forward horse lately who is prone to rushing. I've been utilising the half halt and applying small amounts of pressure on the outside rein and releasing as I go around the arena. I'm quite happy with the progress we have made, I've become a lot more quieter in the hands instead of the tensing 'oh no' moment when she starts rushing.

I am not however looking forward to freezing my butt off!!!!! I think it takes a good half hour for my hands to get any sort of feeling in them! Gloves seem to be my nemesis as they get holes in them within at least one or two wears! Anyone know of a decent pair of gloves that don't fall apart at the thought of being worn?

Anyways fingers crossed it is another good lesson, we've been focusing on better control over poles and very small jumps so fingers crossed!
 
I like my Mark Todd gloves for riding in (I hate gloves as a rule) because they are thin and flexible and I can still feel the reins, I don't generally suffer cold hands though. The other ones I use are the cotton pimple palm gloves, cheap and cheerful :) where are you getting holes in them that quickly? I get nail holes from my long nails if I have brought ones that are a bit too small for me, going up a size helps with that :)
 
The first pair my Velcro came away at the stitching but they were a cheap pair. The ones I’m using now I bought at a stand at the Osberton Horse Trials they are Toggi ones and they came apart at the seam at tip of the finger after one ride. I’ve decided I need to invest in a good pair!

If you haven't used them much I would contact toggi about theirs falling apart, that's useless!

Quite quickly for someone working with horses is a bit different to the seam coming apart on the first use IMO :)
 
I quite like the pimple palm ones for riding in as they don't make my hands feel like "clubs" lol
I used to have some soft thin leather ones - but they ended up holeyo_O
 
I use Macwets which last well unless I use rubber reins. When Harvey was in his rein snatching phase he wore through a pair in 2 rides....
 
The seams on both index fingers on my Ariats have come apart, after a couple of years of riding in them once a week.. but I also sometimes wear them for cycling as well, so I suppose they have seen a certain amount of use. My next pair will be from Roeckl, which I've previously found the best.
 
I posted a similar thread about this a good few months ago - apologies I can't find it now, but I ended up getting some relatively cheap pimple ones from Decathlon (no more than £5 a pair). I bought two as I thought they'd be rubbish tbh. I only ride once a week and also wear them doing yard duties as I get psoriasis so prefer to keep my hands clean and covered rather than washing them all the time. Long story short I've had them all summer and now into winter and am still on the first pair with no sign of holes or anything.
 
I love Roeckl gloves. Mine get some hard wear, i use them for all yard jobs too with 5 horses as well as riding. They look a bit rubbish after about 6 months, and my nails tend to make small holes in the end about this point too, but I actually dont think thats too bad. My white show pair are nearly 18 months old and good as new after a gentle wash every so often. Bonus - they work fine with a touch screen phone! :)
 
I have Roekl gloves. With a thicker winter pair for winter which cost quite a bit but last. I have had them for some years and wash them but no problems. But I keep them for riding and not yard work.The rest of the year I wear the thin Roekls for riding and wash them regularly. After some years the outer coating does wear away but I go on using the tatty ones.You need to buy a size with long enough fingers. Mine dont wear out at the end.
The other good winter gloves I have are fingerless woofwear -they are mittens and your fingers are bare so you can feel the horses you are grooming and if I wore them to ride, my fingers never seemed to get cold.
