Well last Wednesday sox went out looking quite sore. On the night he didn't really want to weight bare and hobbled in! I thought he had broken something but then thought possibly abscess, spoke to the vet and poulticed.

They came out on the Thursday just to give him the once over. Vet dug a hole, confirmed it was an abscess and it was draining and to dry poultice. Well I dry poulticed twice and got nothing.

So went back to wet hot poultice Saturday night. Since then I have had nothing from this damn poultice! And still have a very sore/lame horse!

I did phone the vet last night as I was starting to worry it might be something else other then an abscess . They said to give him some bute and do a hot poultice. As she agreed and said it sounds very much like an abscess l.The bute has made a slight improvement but that is all. Still nothing from the poultice this morning. So frustrating!!

Hi, have you got him in or out, I generally turnout out , the movement is great at drawing it, have they suggest tubbing as well, we generally tub with Epsom salts then poultice x 2 a day until we are getting a good drain and then dry poultice until clear.

As he has been so lame and nothing on the poultice he has been In. Farrier couldn't find anything. He has heat in his front from knee down to foot :(

I have put him out but he looks very sore and almost it's not from his foot...

Sounds like you need the vet again, particularly since you've had the farrier out & he can't find anything.

Is there heat at the coronet, any sign of wetness there- sounds as if it is an abcess it is travelling up - tubbing would help with that if it is - bruising near the toe would certainly cause discomfort and the pain from the abcess is one of the worst - Josh had 3 colic episodes in 5 hours when he had his, he was injected for pain but it didn't touch him.

Any swelling in the leg accompanying the heat suggesting infection is spreading? if so have a word with the vet again........ you may already have done - how is he today?

There doesn't appear to be any swelling as such just heat higher up his legs. Farrier did also trim him yesterday as well as seeing to the right fore. He is worse today :( unsure if it's the trim or not :(
