I heard this term from an old time cowboy I worked for. To jingle in the horses is to round up or gather the remuda of horses to pick out the horses to be used that day.

An eccentric and extravagant sporting grocer, a citizen of St. Botolph Lane and Great Coram Street, London, invented by R. S. Surtees in 1831. The character appears in Jorrock's Jaunts and Jollities, Handley Cross, Hillingdon Hall, and other books by Surtees.
